Nokia’s roadmap document

Yesterday Forum Nokia released it’s roadmap document on its prospective work in 2010. This document is important to all developers who are aiming to make impression in the Nokia landscape of mobile devices. Insights in the document include –

1. The different Nokia platforms today – S60, Series 40 and the Maemo ( moving to Meego ).

2. Market share of different OS in mobile phones today ; Symbian continues to hold nearly 45% of the space.

3. Introduction to the Meego platform. And many more..

Quoted from the document – ” Series 40 supports Adobe Flash Lite 3.1;Symbian also offers Java ME, Flash Lite 3.1 and Microsoft Silverlight; Maemo offers support for Adobe Flash 9.4. We also expect to move to full Adobe Flash support on Symbian. Series 40 supports Adobe Flash Lite 3.1;Symbian also offers Java ME, Flash Lite 3.1 and Microsoft Silverlight; Maemo offers support for Adobe Flash9.4. It is really nice to note that Nokia is considering Flash to be an uncompromisable platform in its future for delivering rich content to its users; despite huge speculation about HTML5’s entry and how it can affect Flash’s market share.

Adobe Presenting At NDC, Bangalore

As most of you would be knowing the Nokia Developer Conference 2009 is taking place this December 7, 2009 at Taj Residency, Bangalore.
And what makes this special is that, Adobe would be presenting at the event and showcase some of their technologies.  Hence this becomes a great opportunity for anybody in the world of Flash Lite to interact with engineers at Adobe and Nokia, face to face.

If you are member of IndiMad ( Adobe Indian Mobile and Devices User group ), you get a 20 % off on the entry to the event.  In order to avail this offer, shoot a mail to Mariam – owner of igamestudio .

“Thank You” Forum Nokia

In recognition and as a reward to the Flash Lite works of mine with which I had been pursuing over the last two years, Forum Nokia has awarded me the title of “FORUM NOKIA CHAMPION”

FN_ChampionI wish to thank Forum Nokia, Adobe in recognizing Flashactions and tens of people like Krishna Raj from flashactions; Pankaj ( and co-authors) at Croozeus.com and all my developer friends online. You have all been instrumental in this feat.

New Flash Lite components

In the last two months, I authored several Flash Lite UI components at Forum Nokia site.  Some of the components I wrote are

The MovieController component is used to control a SWF/Movie Clip being played in Flash Lite. The user can use this component to change the current position(seek) of an executing movieclip. By moving the tract in this component, the movieclip can be controlled.

The numeric stepper is one of the most ubiquitous UI components in modern UI design. The numeric stepper has a textfield(that contains a Numberic value) which can be incremented by fixed steps by the use of buttons. The numeric stepper must also provide for direct editing of the textfield’s value.

The scrollpane component can be used as a container to hold external images, SWF and scroll through them. The scrollpane component can also hold movieclips(linkage from library) and provide for scrolling.

You may also notice that several such articles and tutorials have been aggregated in the tutorials now page of Flashactions.

Another Chance To Win A N97 From Forum Nokia

Forum Nokia is hosting another competition this month of September. It’s a Review Wiki Article Contest (September 1 – September 30 2009) where the users rate, review and comment on Wiki articles, in an aim to bring out the best articles in the developer Wiki homepage.

Details of the competition are below

You can win a N97 multimedia device by giving your approval to one or more Wiki articles you juged to be accurate, reliable and well written. The purpose of this competition is to provide additional feedback pointing out high quality articles that are tested by the community. With this information, non-members and new developers will be able to trust the code examples and articles with the designated Reviewers Approved Thumbs Up. If in doubt, they may read the comments that explain why they were reviewer approved.

Read the rules and quickly get started on your way to earn a grand N97.

Good Luck !

Code of Partnership

Well, not many know about Code of Partnership happening in India, and at my hometown Chennai.

Code of Partnership is another congregation / workshop organised by Forum Nokia to leverage and motivate the developer base in WRT platform. It is a One day event hosted at Chennai and the list of speakers include  Mr. Prakash Sayini – Forum Nokia India Head, Mr. Sunil Rao, Developer Relations Manager, Forum Nokia and my very friend from Bangalore Mr. Balagopal who works as a Technology expert at Nokia.

I think the main motive of this event is to evangelize developers to the WRT platform, but wonder why the registration has been made Invite-only. You can read more, here.  And as it appears from the site, Forum Nokia developer Conference 2009 is on its way.

The sad part, all these events happen only when I am not in town or not available. 😦

Now, Latest Flashlite Enabled Nokia devices Spreadsheet Data From Bill Perry From Nokia

Now Bill Perry from Nokia has a new blog/website – Bill (Mobile Perry) and he has updated his Nokia Flash enabled device list.

He has included not only the latest handset specs (including very latest 5th edition devices such as the 5800  & N97), but also some Maemo devices, namely the N800, N810, and N810 WiMax (which support a Flash 9 browser plugin)

You can download the PDF directly here while reading this one here.

nafd2 It’s a very  useful resource for flashlite community, since the information in Adobe Device Central can sometimes be still (particularly if you don’t get ADC updates), and Bill has put in more information in his post, such as hardware support such as GPS, touch screen, rotation features, and even software feature support such as video support, S60 Platform Services and OVI Store support too.  This is one should appreciate in his efforts in putting all the updates in one place in go.

New Components and Libraries Released By Forum Nokia

A whole new set of essential set of UI components have been released by Forum Nokia for Flash Lite developers. The set includes Button component, the List, the Scrollbar, Pop-up component, Media data component and Contacts component. The components can be used to develop applications to devices supporting Flash Lite 2.0 (and above). The developing environment requirements are Flash CS3 or CS4. Get them here.

Along with this, to encourage and help developers to build their own customized components, Forum Nokia has also come up with a Guide to build the new components.

Best of the news comes as Forum Nokia released Flash Lite Library v1.4  that has the following improvements compared to its previous version.

The second feature listed is boon to developers. They can access the device info and yet publish their content in FL 2.0 players. The only catch being that the device has to be FL 3.1 compatible.
